SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York is a film festival that focuses on socially relevant film content, dealing with human interest stories that raise awareness about social problems and might offer positive solutions through the powerful medium of cinema. SR believes that through raised awareness and expanded knowledge about diverse cultures, it is possible to create a better world free of violence, hate and crime. This year, the Festival will present one French documentary, and will organize the “From Book to Movie: Adapting the Novel for the Screen” Industry Panel in collaboration with Albertine Books.

In the 1950s and 60s, two women named Jacqueline joined the competition reserved to men. They shared one passion: aviation, one goal: to become the world’s fastest woman. The American Jacqueline Cochran became the first woman to break the sound barrier, but her record was soon snatched by Jacqueline Auriol, who became the first European woman to break the sound barrier. Their extraordinary supersonic duel lasted 15 years.

“From Book to Movie: Adapting the Novel for the Screen”
This panel will kickstart the Festival and is organized in collaboration with Albertine Books.

Panelists:

Robert Schenkkan - Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, Writer's Guild Award winning and two-time Emmy nominated writer of stage and screen; Lila Azam Zanganeh, internationally published author of the acclaimed book The Enchanter: Nabokov and Happiness; Marc Levy - widely published bestselling French Novelist of 17 works and Brigitte Gauthier, recently published published by Gallimard novelist and screenwriting professor novelist, as well as literary critic  will introduce us to the art of writing adapted screenplays.

Moderated by: Nora Armani, Actress, Founding Artistic Director of SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York.
