Two French Films at the aGLIFF Festival - Polari

AGLIFF (Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival) was founded in 1987. Since then, it has grown tremendously in size and scope from a short four-day run of four films primarily focused on coming out and AIDS to a multifaceted nonprofit organization with year-round community programs culminating in our annual film festival program, with over 100 films depicting a myriad of issues across cultures, race, immigration status, class, gender identity and expression, age, and religion.

Tom at the Farm (Tom à la ferme)

Directed by Xavier Dolan (2013)
Foreign Narrative | 102 min
Canada & France | In French with English subtitles | Texas Premiere

French-Canadian sensation, writer/director/star, Xavier Dolan's “Tom at the Farm” might be his best feature yet, (he recently won the 2014 Cannes Jury Prize for, “Mommy”) a psychosexual thriller that pulses with style, and has been garnering Hitchcock comparisons. Tom (played by Dolan), a grief-stricken young ad copywriter visits his dead lover’s parents — only to get drawn into a savage game rooted in the rural family’s dark past. There, he is shocked to find out no one knows who he is nor who he was to the deceased, whose brother soon sets the rules of a twisted game. Co-starring Evelyne Brochu (BBC America’s, “Orphan Black”).

Dior and I (DOCUMENTARY CLOSING NIGHT FILM)

Directed by Frédéric Tcheng (2014)
Documentary Film I 90 min
In English & French with English subtitles | Texas Premiere

Filmmaker Frédéric Tcheng follows up his work on excellent fashion films, including "Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel" and "Valentino: The Last Emperor", with another masterful exploration of a towering fashion institution. In "Dior and I", one enters the storied world that is the House of Christian Dior with a privileged, behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Raf Simons’ highly anticipated first Haute Couture collection as the iconic brand’s new Artistic Director. From conception through its ultimate exhibition, the process is shown to be a true labor of love by the stoic Simons and a dedicated, charming, and often humorous team of collaborators. Beautifully melding the everyday and pressure-filled components of fashion with an elegant reverence for the history of Dior, Tcheng’s colorful homage to the seamstresses of the atelier is nothing short of magical. - Tribeca Film Festival
