The third edition of Films on the Beach begins with a classic by legendary French director Jean Renoir...

Boudu, a Parisian tramp, jumps into the Seine river and is rescued by Mr Lestingois (Charles Granval), a well to do bookseller. With the help of his family, Mr Lestingois decides to take in Boudu and give him shelter. Contrary to what might be expected, Boudu shows his appreciation by acting out his rambunctious self, exacerbating all those who surround him. A wonderful satire of the Parisian bourgeoisie...

Fun facts about the film:
The film was remade in 1986 for an American audience as "Down and Out in Beverly Hills", directed by Paul Mazursky and starring Nick Nolte and Bette Midler.  Another remake, Boudu, was released in 2005. Gérard Jugnot directed, from a screenplay by Philippe Lopes-Curval. It starred Gérard Depardieu as Boudu. The film also inspired an episode of the 60’s American cartoon TV series “The Flintstone” in the episode: "This is Your Lifesaver"  from season 2.

Boudu Sauvé Des Eaux / Boudu Saved From Drowning
