Jump Into VR Festival kicks off this year on Sept 15-17 in New York City’s Lower East Side. The inaugural festival will highlight the latest developments in the VR/XR (virtual reality / extended reality) ecosystem through a series of workshops and presentations with industry experts and thought leaders, as well as cutting edge VR art showcases and experimental performances.

Over the course of three-days, Jump Into the Light’s Orchard Street venue will become a VR playground featuring room scale and multi-player arena VR/XR experiences (HTC Vive, Oculus, Hololens), demo booths, and a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment). Next door, Hotel Indigo will be transformed into a VR gallery hosting cinematic VR experiences, presentations, and new media art installations. Several French Virtual Reality projects have been selected to screen at the Festival.

FRENCH VR PROJECTS SELECTED

Lifeline Directed by Victor Michelot, Produced by Dissidence Productions
Lifeline tells the story of the frozen moment when you fall in love. There’s no past, no present, no future but one unique sphere out of space and time whithin which feelings, memories and desires are mingled.

Planete ∞ Directed by Momoko Seto, Produced by ARTE
A dystopian tale by artist and filmmaker Momoko Seto. In the near future, Nature has turned wild and devastated Planet Earth. Human beings have become extinct. But insects, fungi and strange marine creatures have survived and are engaged in strange doings. Is this the stuff of science fiction or is it a prophetic vision? You will no longer look at animals and plants in the same way.

Sergent James Directed by Alexandre Perez, Produced by Floreal Films
It is Leo's bedtime. When his mum goes to switch off the light, the little boy thinks there is something under his bed...

Alteration Directed by Jérôme Blanquet, Produced by ARTE and OKIO Studios
Alexandro volunteers for an experiment carried out to study dreams. He doesn’t even imagine that he’s going to be subjected to the intrusion of Elsa, a form of Artificial Intelligence, who’s going to digitize and dematerialize his subconscious in order to feed off it.

Beyond the entertaining VR experiences, there will also be panels with industry experts, including French Speakers: Fred Volhuer (VR distributor at Atlas 5, NYC), Daphné Lora (Digital Officer at French Embassy in NYC), Mourad Bennacer (Technical director at SAT, Montreal), Patrick Levy Rosenthal (Founder at Emoshape, NYC)...
