FRENCH & EUROPEAN PRESENCE AT SXSW 2017

This year again, France will have a strong presence in the official program of the three festivals at South by Southwest (SxSW), the annual world-renowned celebration of music, film and digital culture. Musical talents will be performing throughout the festival thanks to Bureau Export / France Rocks. French innovation will be showcased by Business France in the Trade Show on March 12-15 and at French House organized by La French Tech on March 14-15. And for the first time, the European Union delegation to the US will have its own venue.

Bureau Export / France Rocks returns to SxSW to present the next wave of French talent from March 14 to 19 in Austin. French bands include CARPENTER BRUT, GOLDILOX, JAIN, MANAST LL’, ODEZENNE, THE BLIND SUNS, JACQUES, HOOKA HEY, MOLECULE, GLOCKABELLE, THE DOVE & THE WOLF, LAURE BRIARD, VEDETT, LOU REBECCA, IMARHAN.

Two of the selected startups - Augmented Acoustics and Wonda VR- are returning to the U.S. after participating in 2016 in the French-American Digital Lab, a 10-day program of meetings, seminars and creative sessions  co-produced by the Cultural services of the French Embassy and Business France in New York.

On March 14 at 10.30 am, the Consul general of France in Houston, Sujiro Seam, will participate in a conversation with Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) and Karen Bell, Consul general of the United Kingdom in Houston on “UK vs US vs French approaches to fostering innovation”. This discussion will open the Innovation Policy Day organized by CTA.

Organized by La French Tech and French Waves, French House at SxSW will feature startup presentations, professional networking events, concerts and virtual reality demos. Over the course of two days, March 14-15, French House will be taking over the Palm Door on Sabine (located at 401 Sabine St., Austin, Texas 78701) to offer festival goers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the latest advancements in the fields of technology, music and moving image.

On March 14, the French Waves official music showcase will feature an immersive visual and musical experience by two of the most promising and innovative producers emerging from the French electronic scene, Molécule and Jacques. 

On March 15, during the French Waves brunch, Molécule, Jacques and Julian Starke, director of French Waves, will guide audiences through a unique musical and visual trip into French electronic music. Zorba and Miala will unveil the first images of Molécule's upcoming album "Musique Polaire". Nine innovative Virtual Reality works will also be presented at French House.

For the first time this year, the European Union Delegation to the United States will also be present at SxSW, between March 11 and 13, with its EU@SXSW venue, the go-to place for a European perspective on cutting-edge technologies, creative thinking and innovation. The European Union supports the participation of 10 startups at SxSW Interactive, including Setkeeper from France.
