Directed by Hong Sang-soo
US release date: November 9, 2012

Directed by cult Korean auteur Hong Sang-soo (Night and Day, The Day He Arrives) and starring Isabelle Huppert (The Piano Teacher, White Material), two-time winner of the award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, in a virtuoso comedic performance,  In Another Country stands as Mr. Hong’s first English-speaking production and features Ms. Huppert as three different characters, all named Anne, in three distinct stories that unfold in the humble seaside resort of Mohong.  Each act sprouts from the imagination of a financially destitute film student who scripts out scenarios about a glamorous French traveller to escape her own distress.  Ms. Huppert’s circumstances shift with each story, yet Mr. Hong provides powerfully codified constants in each episode including Ms. Huppert’s repeated cascading into the arms of the same jocular young lifeguard, played effortlessly by Yu Junsang, through chance encounters on the beach, sharply clumsy dialogue, loneliness and off-screen sex and drunkenness.  Mr. Hong’s masterful ease with the comedy of cross-cultural awkwardness culminates as he repeatedly clones the elusive and unattainable Anne in a world that transforms itself to embrace her.

Opens in the U.S. on November 9, 2012. This film may not be shown in all US cities, please check your local listings for exact showtimes and places. Link: moviefone
