AUGUSTINE at Kendall Square Cinema

Directed by Alice Winocour
US release date: Friday, June 21st

The darkly sensual romantic drama Augustine examines the unusual relationship between Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot (Vincent Lindon, Mademoiselle Chambon), the pioneering 19th century French neurologist, and his star teenage patient, Augustine (singer-turned-actress Soko, in a breakout performance). The patient suffers a spectacular seizure that leaves her partially paralyzed, and is shipped off to an all-female psychiatric hospital specializing in the then-fashionable ailment of 'hysteria.' As Augustine's dependence on her doctor deepens, the lines between doctor and patient become blurred, radically affecting both their lives. Based on a true story, writer/director Alice Winocour's debut feature chronicles one woman's sexual awakening against the backdrop of neo-Victorian psychology and social repression. (Fully subtitled)

This movie will be screened for one week only at the Kendall Square Cinema beginning Friday, June 21st. Don't miss it!
