Interview with Pierre Étaix

January 29, 2013 | By French Culture & CUNY TV

Pierre Etaix is a physical comedian in the tradition of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.  Known for fanciful comic scenarios such as Le Grand Amour, which plays out a factory owner’s fantasy of driving a bed-on-wheels with his secretary through the town, Etaix’s work was almost unseen for more than 20 years because of issues with rights.   In 2010 the rights problem was resolved, and work began on restorations of Etaix’s films.  In October 2012, Film Forum held a 12 day celebration of the performer's work, which, along with a premiere of one of the restorations at Cannes, helped bring the work of this performer back into public view.
