Cannes 2014 Award Winners

The 2014 Cannes Festival has just released the list of this year's laureates. In the official competition, the Palme d’Or went to Winter Sleep by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, the prix du Jury ex-eaquo went to Mommy by Xavier Dolan and Adieu au Language by Jean-Luc Godard. Bennett Miller won best director for his movie Foxcatcher. Julianne Moore, who starred in Maps to the Stars, received the prize for best actress. The award for best short film went to the French short movie Aïssa, by Clement Trehin-Lalanne.

The special Un Certain Regard prize went to The Salt of the Earth a film produced by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado. Party Girl, which was directed by Marie Amachoukeli, Claire Burger and Samuel Theis, received the Ensemble Prize and the Camera d’Or. In the Cinefondation selection, the Premier Prix was awarded to Skunk, which was directed by Annie Silverstein.

La Semaine de la Critique, a parallel film competition run by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics, awarded the Grand Prize and the France 4 Visionary Award to The Tribe, by Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy. Hope, a film directed by Boris Lojkine was awarded the Prix de la Société des auteurs-compositeurs dramatiques. Love at First Fight, Thomas Vailley’s first movie, starring Kevin Azaïs and Adèle Haenel, received the SACD prize as well as two prizes from the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. The feature film Timbuktu, directed by Abderrahmane Sissako, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or received the prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the 2014 Francois-Chalais prize.
