Direct to Series in Los Angeles

October 14, 2013 | By Myriam Laville

The first event dedicated to French series and designated for American professionals. Los Angeles / Pacific Design Center – November 1 & 2, 2013

The Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United States and The Ile-de-France Film Commission organize on Nov 1 & 2, 2013 in Los Angeles the first edition of DIRECT TO SERIES (Original French Content for Global Market), an event dedicated to French Series.

The aim of this new event is to highlight the revival of French television drama while creating opportunities for creative exchanges that may give rise to new projects.
TV series and content is more sophisticated than ever, and has ushered with it, the arrival of a new generation of author; inspired by the boldness of American TV shows, demanding a reinvention of the rules, and working in teams, often resulting in content with remarkable quality

In recent years, French television drama has shown a new creativity. French series are experiencing a true resurgence in the quality of writing, production and actor performance, bold subjects, original situations, mesmerizing performances, and an overall new sense of sophistication on all levels that has the critics and public clamoring for more original content. The success is apparent and recognition of these series has transcended French borders; they are selling internationally and have won awards in international festivals.

In the world of television today, the international marketplace has become the paragon of importance, and a major indicator of success. In order to match the exportation of their American, British, and Scandinavian competitors, French series are transforming to match global standards.

Since French series have very few opportunities to be viewed in the United States, DIRECT TO SERIES will present the best French creations in the genre, make them familiar to professional American buyers of known VOD platforms and networks, series producers, scriptwriters, and to showrunners.

The objective of this event is equally to encourage meetings
- between American and French writers to foster relationships and create international connections in hopes of collaborations, enriching the creative process, and as a platform for working together and sharing methods through case study.
- between producers, French and American, to initiate new co-productions.
- between professionals from both countries, to promote film locations and shooting in France, and to display the skills and experience of these French professionals.

This 1st edition is supported by WGA - West (Writers Guild of America), DGA (Directors Guild of America), SACD and TV France International.
