The Enchanted World Jacques Demy

March 20, 2013 | By French Culture

Inspired Jean Cocteau, David Hockney, Alexander Calder, Raoul Dufy, Niki de Saint-Phalle, the films of Jacques Demy reinterpret the Hollywood musical comedy and the French poetic comedy with the irreverence of experimental cinema. Demy's radically emotional aesthetic won him the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1964 for Les Parapluies de Cherbourg.

This spring, an exhibition and film retrospective at the La Cinémathèque française in Paris (April 10 - August 4) offers a vivid glimpse into the colorful world of the legendary filmmaker, juxtaposing his films with drawings, paintings and sculptures by Demy and the artists that inspired his work.

Le monde enchanté de Jacques Demy, curated by Matthieu Orléan (La Cinémathèque française) and produced in collaboration with Ciné-Tamaris, will be on view from April 10 through August 4, 2013 at the La Cinémathèque française in Paris.
