France's International Animation Film Festival Opens with Monsters University

June 11, 2013 | By FRENCH CULTURE FILM

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival will take place from June 10th to 15th and will focus on introducing the audience to the latest animated gems, film directors, current and future trends, and up-and-coming talents.

Created in 1956, this festival is a major event for cinema professionals and movie buffs. Every year, 7,000 people representing 80 different countries attend its world premieres, lectures, exhibits, and Work in Progress… The festival is followed by the International Market of Animated Film, dedicated to professionals.

New Art Director Marcel Jean supervised this year’s edition, concentrating on a tribute to Polish cinema with fifty films being screened. Programmers screened 2460 films and selected 236 of them. Among them are several French films and some American ones, as well as (for the first time!) three Chinese shorts. All in all, this 53th edition will present spectators with :

• 9 feature films in competition, 14 not competing

• 52 short films in competition, 37 not competing

• 73 TV films

• 51 films from cinema students

• 45 countries in the official selection

The American animation Monsters University will open the festival.
