Most promising actor

If 2013 was Adele Exachorpoulos' year (BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR), we expect that 2014 will be the year of Vincent Macaigne. A well known stage director and actor, Macaigne is fast becoming one of the most prolific French actors in film. After a breakthrough role in A WORLD WITHOUT WOMEN, a medium length film directed by Guillaume Brac (2011), Vincent Macaigne will be seen in no less than four films in 2013. We hope that he won't slow down any time soon! Try to catch THE RENDEZ VOUS OF DEJA VU (LA FILLE DU 14 JUILLET) directed by Antonin Peretjatko, AGE OF PANIC (LA BATAILLE DE SOLFERINO) directed by Justine Triet, 2 AUTUMNS, 3 WINTERS directed by Sebastien Betbeder, TONNERRE directed by Guillaume Brac. You won't regret it!

Leading man

2014 will be another great year for the extraordinary Mathieu Amalric who will be seen on screen playing opposite Benicio del Toro in JIMMY P (PSYCHOTHERAPY OF A PLAINS INDIAN) directed by Arnaud Desplechin; fighting Emmanuelle Seigner in VENUS IN FUR directed by Roman Polanski; and also in LOVE IS THE PERFECT CRIME directed by the Larrieu brothers; IF YOU DON'T, I WILL (ARRETE OU JE CONTINUE) directed by Sophie Fillieres; as well as THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL by Wes Anderson (technically not a French film but, we really wish we could claim Wes as a French director).

Added bonus

LES REVENANTS (THE RETURNED) is coming back! Season two is on its way and the shooting is finally beginning in the coming weeks. Season one which was orginally broadcast in France two years ago and in the US last fall has been a smashing success on both sides of the Atlantic. For season two, we hear that there will be new characters with ties to the current protagonists, some supporting roles will be more developed and there will be more special effects as beautiful as the butterfly from the first season. An American remake is also in the works with show runner Carlton Cuse (LOST).

The broadcast date has not been released yet, but we're crossing our fingers that it will be before the end of the year…..

Selected retrospectives & series (NY based)

The complete Truffaut at Film Forum, the annual Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in March at FLSC and IFC Center, a showcase of "Secret History of French Cinema" in collaboration with Cahiers du Cinema and a Vincent Lindon retrospective at FIAF, a long awaited Marcel Hanoun retrospective and a very exciting Mathieu Amalric retrospective at Anthology Film Archives!

More information on the these films, festivals and series will be published on our website and in our cinema newsletters in the coming months. Stay tuned!
