French Series ENGRENAGES To Be Adapted For US Television

September 16, 2013 | By Myriam Laville

The LA-based production company Endemol North America, has begun developing an English-language adaptation of the hit French crime thriller Spiral (Engrenages in French) for U.S. television.

The series was originally produced by Son et Lumière production in association with CANAL+. It debuted on CANAL+ in December 2005. Its fifth season is expected to air in 2014 and a sixth is already in development.
An international hit, “Engrenages” has aired in over 60 territories, including the UK on BBC4, and the United States, where the first three seasons are available on Netflix.

The show follows a murder investigation through the often corrupt legal system as seen through the eyes of a police captain and her two lieutenants, a judge, a prosecutor and a defense lawyer. According to Endemol Studios CEO Philippe Maigret “Engrenages offers a hyper-realistic take on the French judicial system.”
