Gilles Bourdos’ Renoir, has been selected as France’s 2014 Foreign Language Oscar candidate, following last year's choice, the comedy blockbuster The Intouchables [Intouchables].

Produced by Olivier Delbosc and Marc Missonnier at Fidelite Films, the movie was screened on closing night in Cannes, as part of the festival's "Un Certain Regard" section. It was also one of this year’s highest-grossing French films at the U.S. box office, taking in an estimated $2.2 million since its release in March and making it one of the most successful foreign language films in America this year.

The movie presents the impressionist artist Auguste Renoir's obsession with a young model who re-ignited his passion for painting as an old man while depicting his life in 1915 in the French Riviera.

The French selection committee includes Cannes Film Festival artistic director Thierry Fremaux, Paul Otchakovsky from the National Film Board (CNC), actress Isabelle Adjani, script supervisor Sylvette Baudrot, director Laurent Cantet (“The Class”), producer Estelle Fialon who produced the Oscar-nominated The Gatekeepers, and producer and Cesar president Alain Terzian.
