Seven French Artists Among Oscars Academy Invitees

Emmanuelle Riva, the Oscar-winning French actress from Michael Haneke’s Amour, is among the actors who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. If she accepts the invitation, she be one of the nearly 6,000 Academy members who decide each year's Oscar winners.

Several other French actors, filmmakers, writers and industry professionals are part of the 276 people invited to join the Academy this year. Among them the movie director Agnès Varda, Julie Delpy (invited for her work as a writer though she is also an actress and a director), the Amour producer, Margaret Ménégoz and three directors of Photography : Agnès Godard, Éric Gautier and Benoît Delhomme.

The new members, "have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures," said the Academy.
