The famed Belgian filmmaker and pioneer of modern feminist cinema Chantal Akerman passed away on October 5, 2015. In a tribute to the filmmaker, distributor Janus films is offering free access to six of her films on HULU.

Janus Films’ catalogue of Chantal Akerman’s films includes Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975), which depicts several hours in the domestic life of a single mother who is also a sex worker.

In addition to Jeanne Dielman, five other films by Akerman will be available until Wednesday October 21: La Chambre (1972), Hotel Monterey (1972), Je Tu Il Elle (1975), News From Home (1976), Les Rendez-vous D’Anna (1978). You can watch them here.

Kent Jones, Director of Programming for the New York Film Festival, wrote a moving tribute to Chantal Akerman published on the NYFF website, On Chantal Akerman.

No Home Movie, Akerman's latest film, was selected in NYFF'53's Main Slate and the French Cultural Services & the NYFF organized free screenings of Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles and Chantal Akerman by Chantal Akerman on October 9 as a spontaneous homage to the influential and revered filmmaker.
