Spotlight on the Deauville American Film Festival

July 22, 2013 | By Myriam Laville

Once a year, American and European film stars head to the small coastal town of Deauville for the Deauville American Film Festival. Since 1975 the festival has sought highlighted the best of American cinematography. This year, the festival will be held from August 30 to September 8, 2013.

As in previous years, the competition will  offer a  great  number of premieres – such as Rush by Ron Howard, Wrong Cops by Quentin Dupieux and  Blue Jasmine by Woody Allen – as well as  tributes to various film personalities. Among them are Cate Blanchett, Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, all of  whom will be present.

This year, the Deauville American Film Festival continues to explore the life of heroes in American society. The movies in competition, the premieres and the documentaries portray heroes who often seem weary and demotivated, yet who are still curious to understand what they are going through, and in the course of their trials, seek to confront themselves. That is the narrative theme of a great many of the fiction films in this year’s line-up.

Here is the selection to give you a foretaste of  this year's festival.
