Third Time’s the Charm for the Champs-Elysées Film Festival

May 8, 2014 | By Romain Rancurel

Created by the producer, distributor and curator Sophie Dulac, the third edition of the Champs-Elysées Film Festival, will take place from 11th – 17th June in the theatres along L’Avenue de Champs-Elysées in Paris.

This year, the third edition of the French-American film festival will include over 60 films and nearly 100 screenings.

Presided over by French Director Bertrand Tavernier and actress Jacqueline Bisset, the 2014 program will see nine newly released American independent films compete for the Best Feature Film award and over 35 French and American shorts in the Short Film Competition. The Grand Classics of French Cinema category will pay homage to the great Henri Langlois as we celebrate the year of his centenary.

The festival will also welcome several Guests of Honor for a series of masterclasses, including Agnès Varda, Keanu Reeves, Whit Stillman and Mike Figgis. Furthermore, the festival will host close to thirty red carpet premieres of French and American films.

Finally, the festival will be the venue for a professional event : the US in Progress/Paris selection. US-in-Progress presents American independent films while they are still in post-production to European buyers, providing the producers with access to completion funding and distribution. This program takes place twice a year, the other event occurring in Wroclaw, Poland in October in as part of the American Film Festival there. Four titles have been selected for US-in-Progress/Paris, which will take place on June 11th & 12th :  Automatic at Sea by Matthew Lessner, Creative Control by Benjamin Dickinson, Eugenia and John by Hossein Keshavarz and Plastic Jesus by Erica Dunton.
