Tributes to Chantal Akerman
The famed Belgian filmmaker and pioneer of modern feminist cinema Chantal Akerman passed away on October 5, 2015. Several organizations and theaters are featuring special screenings as a tribute to Akerman's work - some of them are still in progress and will soon be announced on this page.

City College and the Lincoln Center to Present Chantal Akerman Tribute
City College of New York and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present a free tribute to the late master Chantal Akerman on Sunday, March 19. Belgian-born and Paris-based, Chantal Akerman was a cinematic visionary—among the most significant filmmakers of the last half-century. She was also a New Yorker who lived and taught in the city.
Chantal Akerman: New York Remembers

The tribute will feature films, music, and personal reminiscences. Speakers will include Jonas Mekas, Babette Mangolte, Andrew Bujalski, and more. The tribute will be followed by a reception in the Film Society’s Furman Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.
The 2016 Department of Cinema Studies Graduate Student Conference at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, is designed to celebrate Akerman’s memory and will focus on one of her most consistent and deeply examined themes: displacement.
Displacement will take place on 4 and 5 March 2016 and feature keynote speaker Giuliana Bruno (Harvard University), closing remarks from Sandy Flitterman-Lewis (Rutgers University) and a screening of Akerman’s 2006 film Là-bas.

Film Comment Selects
Film Comment magazine’s annual festival, with its customarily unpredictable blend of sublime wonders and hard-hitting visions, runs February 17-24 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Closing night is a tribute to the late Chantal Akerman, with a revival of her rare, utterly delightful musical, Golden Eighties:

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the New York Jewish Film Festival (January 13 – 26, 2016) is the preeminent showcase for groundbreaking films exploring the Jewish experience around the world. The Festival will screen a film by Chantal Akerman as well as a very new Belgian documentary on the filmmaker:
