Les Arts Florissants To Perform In The Us

“Le Jardin des Voix is a bona fide season highlight for early-music fans” New York Times “Splendor is this group’s natural element.” - Opera News (on Les Arts Florissants and Le Jardin des Voix)

Since its founding in 1979, French Baroque ensemble Les Arts Florissants has been lacking one Rameau piece in its concert repertoire, until now—Platée, the ballet bouffon that became the mother of French comic opera. The outlandish satire, written for the wedding of Louis XV’s son, parodies not only the vain nymph Platée but serious opera in its many forms, resulting in hilarity for audiences across the centuries.

Le Jardin des Voix (The Garden of Voices), an academy for young singers founded by William Christie in 2002, has launched the careers of Sonya Yoncheva, Christophe Dumaux, and Emmanuelle de Negri. The new class of six vocalists, chosen from applicants from over 40 countries and accompanied by world-renowned Baroque ensemble Les Arts Florissants, presents a semi-staged production of Italian lyric works from the 17th and 18th centuries.Works by Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Stradella, Cimarosa, and othersLE JARDIN DES VOIXWilliam Christie, conductorLucía Martín Cartón, sopranoLea Desandre, mezzo-sopranoCarlo Vistoli, countertenorNicholas Scott, tenorRenato Dolcini, baritoneJohn Taylor Ward, bass

The Ensemble takes its name from a short opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier.Les Arts Florissants will additionally play the following US dates:
