Pianist Simon Ghraichy At Brooklyn Music School

In October 2016, French pianist Simon Ghraichy, led an energetic program of workshops and master classes at the Brooklyn Music School in Fort Greene, before returning at the Carnegie Hall with a unique recital celebrating his Mexican origins, My Hispanic Heritage.

The program, initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy as part of Kids Trail, and conceived in collaboration with the Brooklyn Music School, introduced students ranging from 5-12 years in age, to the various aspects of performance and appreciation of Hispanic music.

During the workshop sessions, students practicing piano and percussions were all attentive to the virtuoso performing Latin inspired pieces on the piano. Playing joyfully with various rythms and harmonies, they together created a colorful ensemble.

During the master classes, participants Ivan Pea, Gavin Harris, and Chris Yip played pieces by composers Granados, Dussek and Grieg. Simon Ghraichy worked with them on techniques, rythms and musical articulations.

Following the series, the pianist performed at Carnegie Hall a vibrant recital. As a surprise encore, Simon Ghraichy invited to the stage Santos Simpson of the Brooklyn Music School.

Special thanks to the Brooklyn Music School, Piruz Partow, Tom Cootes and Tanasia Swift.

The Brooklyn Music School is a community school for the performing arts, founded in 1912 as the Brooklyn Music School Settlement. The school was founded by European immigrants for whom the performance and appreciation of music was an essential part of life, and who wished to bring high quality music and performance to a broader audience of new Americans. Today Brooklyn continues to be a magnet for people from around the world, both musicians seeking new audiences and families.
