Festival Jazz Sous les Pommiers 2018: May 5 - 12

Jazz sous les pommiers (Jazz under the apple trees) is an annual jazz festival in Coutances, France, traditionally held during the celebration week of the Ascension in May. Initiated by two amateurs Thierry Giard and Gerard Houssin in 1982, the festival now attracts thousands of visitors and spectators every year, from home and abroad.

Performances take place at four venues: the Salle Marcel-Hélie, gymnasium converted into a theater (1,400 seats); the Municipal Theatre (600 seats); the Magic Mirrors (420 seats); the Cellars of Unelles (350-seat jazz club and 100-seat concert). Other outdoor events are held at various places, such as the Esplanade of Unelles, the Évêché Square, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and Jules Vernes School Court. The festival also features a dynamic series of street performances.

In 2018, the electic programming of the Festival's 37th edition incorporates various jazz traditions, spanning from electronic music to classical improvised jazz, with solo, duo and band shows. Featured artists include Goran Bregovic, Kamasi Washington, China Moses, Stacey Kent, Stanley Clarke Band, the Trio Da Kali, Kronos Quartet, Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles among others.
