As part of FranceRocks Summerfest 2017, a French music festival co-presented by The Bureau Export, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, and France Rocks, in partnership with a network of major venues and institutions, Benoit Delbecq will perform at Jazz Standard.

Benoit Delbecq is a Paris–based maverick musician who has brought the spirit of jazz to the use of pre-pared piano and unconventional techniques. “He wedges small pieces of wood or rubber between selected strings to get muted, percussive or bell–like sounds,” wrote Kevin Whitehead for NPR’s “Fresh Air”. “Preparing different notes different ways transforms piano into a percussion orchestra. The instrument has a lot of voices, and Delbecq may give each voice its own character role; one buzzing note might suggest an mbira, the plucked–metal West African thumb piano. Another clacking key might simulate Cuban clavé sticks.” For one night only – and only at Jazz Standard – Benoit Delbecq unites a true dream band featuring John Hébert on bass, Gerald Cleaver on drums, and the singular saxophonist Mark Turner.

He will perform along with Mark Turner (tenor sax), John Hebert (bass), Gerald Cleaver (drums).
