LA FEMME

The title of Parisian band La Femme's debut album, Psycho Tropical Berlin, is a pretty good summation of what to expect: crazed psychedelic pop with a krautrock/coldwave backbone and an affinity for surf rock. Add to that the inherent French element (Ye-Ye enthusiasm and smoky Gainsbourg cool), you get an inventive, highly entertaining album. After a very successful North American tour that started at the French Cultures Festival in Houston and included a highly acclaimed performance at this year's SxSW Festival, the band is ready to rock the Austin Psych Fest. Their album Psycho Tropical Berlin embodies the festival's psychedelic

ZOMBIE ZOMBIE

The upcoming French electro-pop duo Zombie Zombie composed of Etienne Jaumet (synthesizers, analog modular drum machines, effects, vox) and Cosmic Neman (drums, percussion, vox, rototoms, bongos, maracas, tambourine) are performing alongside LA FEMME at the Temple of psychedelic rock.

Their latest album, Rituels d'un Nouveau Monde, evokes the idea of dialogue between the spiritual language of music and its magic, and shows a strong influence of African and Caribbean rhythms. They skillfully reinterpret the music of John Carpenter.

TERAKAFT

Terakaft (meaning “caravan” in Tamasheq) is a genuine desert rock band, sculpted by the pure searing air and the endless rolling sands of the Sahara. The stark, harsh conditions of the desert have permeated their wild riffs, and as a result they are the perfect embodiment of all that is wild and free in desert blues today. Terakaft was formed in 2001 with a line-up that included two former members of Tinariwen, and they have since made the electric guitar their own.

Terakaft is a perfect mix of two rhythm guitars (one keeping the beat effortlessly, the other soaring and sweet) and the deep tones of the bass, resembling the delicate but strong steps of a camel making its way through the desert. The heavy, pulsating heartbeat of the percussion holds everyone together and completes the sound.
