Celebrate Women’s History Month, Early Music America Month and French Culture Month with this special concert of Italian and French Baroque women composers! The concert will be held on March 25th at 7PM at the United Parish of Brookline.

This musical journey through love will lead you from the sultry tones of desire to sheer ecstasy of exultation; from the dark hand of grief and despair to the clenched fist of jealousy, anger, and revenge; and finally back to resurrection, forgiveness, and the peace of the pastoral world, where all things are perfect.

Music by Francesca Caccini, Alba Tressina, Antonia Bembo, Barbara Strozzi, Isabella Leonarda, Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, and Julie Pinel.

About Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre:

Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729), is the most famous woman composer during Louis XIV and Louis XV's reigns. She was born into a family of musicians and master instrument-makers in Paris, where she received her initial musical education from her father and performed on the harpsichord at a five years-old before King Louis XIV. After her marriage to the organist Marin de La Guerre she taught, composed, and gave concerts at home and throughout Paris, to great acclaim. Jacquet de La Guerre was one of the few well-known female composers of her time, and unlike many of her contemporaries, she composed in a wide variety of forms. Her talent and achievements were acknowledged by Titon du Tillet, who accorded her a place on his Mount Parnassus when she was only 26 years old, directly below Lully.

About Julie Pinel:

Julie Pinel (1710–1737) was born into the Pinel family of court musicians, and her vocation as a composer and harpsichord teacher came naturally. We know very little about her life, except that she published her collection of 31 songs, Nouveau receuil d'airs sérieux et à boire, in 1737.
