On Friday, April 21st, 2017ENSEMBLE MISE-EN will give an evening length showcase of French composer, Yan Maresz. With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Maresz has been at the forefront of several distinct musical cultures throughout his extensive career. Maresz first arrived at IRCAM in 1993 where he studied electronic music with French master Tristan Murail. Since then, Maresz has maintained a devoted presence at IRCAM by using its advanced electronic music facilities to develop a new and expansive catalogue of sonic materials, to be used in future compositions. Mr. Maresz is also a regular lecturer and teaching-resident at IRCAM. This concert will demonstrate many of these compositional advancements through a program consisting of representative segments of his oeuvre.

BIOS:
Yan Maresz, composer

Born in Monaco in 1966, Yan Maresz began his musical studies with the piano and percussion at the Monte Carlo Music Academy. He discovered early jazz and then devoted himself to the guitar as an autodidact. In 1983 he became a student of guitarist John McLaughlin of which he was the only student, and since 1989, the main orchestrator and arranger. He studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1984 to 1986, and is gradually moving towards writing. Some of Mr. Maresz more notable engagements include engagements with Ensemble Intercontemporain, as well as Orchestre de Paris.

ENSEMBLE MISE-EN is a New York-based contemporary music collective led by composer Moon Young HA. Comprised of talented young musicians, ENSEMBLE MISE-EN strives to bring a repertoire of challenging new sounds to diverse audiences, wishing to impart an experience that is simultaneously multi-cultural, intellectually stimulating, and beautiful. ENSEMBLE MISE-EN performs throughout the U.S. and maintains offices in Brooklyn, NY.
