Mark your agenda! World-renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet is performing at the Walt Disney Conert Hall with the LA Phil. Each of these special evenings will include four programs: Britten’s Passacaglia, Macmillan’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Fauré’s Pelléas and Mélisande, and Debussy’s La mer.

This beautifully pieced together program is the result of the delicate work of Scottish composer, James MacMillan who has built a concerto/tone poem on the Catholic ritual practice of the Rosary specifically for Thibaudet. To draw this spectacle to a close French conductor Stéphane Denève will perform two works from his home country: a work composed for Maurice Maeterlinck’s tragic Symbolist play, Pelléas et Mélisande. The second will be Debussy’s symphonic poem, a gently moving portrait of the sea, harkening back to French Impressionism of the nineteenth century.

French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet’s musical career traces for than thirty years during which the musician has played in multiple countries, and has recorded over 50 albums, all ranging from solo camber, and orchestral repertoire - from Beethoven through Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, and Saint-Saëns; to Ravel, Khachutaurian and Gershwin. Thibaudet additionally marks the contemporary scene, playing composers such as Qigang Chen and James Macmillan. Thibuadet’s musical talent has earned him two Grammy nominations, Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the Diapason d’Or, the Choc du Monde de la Musique, and the Edison Prize.
