Interview with Christine Salem

April 5, 2013 | By French Culture & CUNY TV

Every year in January New York celebrates work music with GlobalFest, a festival which features some of the leading names in music from around the world.  This year John Pareles of the New York Times chose Christine Salem, a musician from Reunion, as his standout performance of the Festival.  Christine Salem performs Maloya, traditional Reunion music which has its roots both in the honoring of ancestors, and in protest songs. This video features an interview with Christine Salem about Maloya, and performing in GlobalFest.
