Interview with Marseille Based Hip-hop Group IAM

The Marseille-based hip-hop group IAM performed in Central Park with Rakim as part of Fete de la Musique / Make Music New York festival 2013. This concert was the first live performance by the band in New York City.

Widely popular in France and across Europe, IAM’s lyrics often deal with the place of Islam and Arabic culture in French society.

IAM have a long relationship with New York - Akhenaton’s family is from Brooklyn, and the group have recorded regularly in the city, as well as collaborating with artists such as Wu Tang Clan, both in France and New York. In this video, the six memebers of the group express their thoughts on the city, French hip hop and more.
