Philippe Quesne, New Director Of Le Theatre Des Amandiers In Nanterre

The artist Philippe Quesne has been selected to be the new Director of Le Theatre des Amandiers, National Dramatic Center in Nanterre (Western suburbs of Paris), one of the most important  dramatic centers in France.

Philippe Quesne, known for his visual and surreal productions such as SWAMP CLUB, is next in a line of directors that has included Patrice Chéreau, Jean-Pierre Vincent, and recently Jean-Louis Martinelli whom Quesne will succeed on January 1 st, 2014.

Trained as a visual artist and set designer, Quesne’s artistic work represents the most innovative form of theater today.  His productions, developped with minimal dialogue but with  subtle political and social messages, have toured internationally, earning critical and public acclaim. L’EFFET DE SERGE was a hit at the Under The Radar festival in New York in 2010 for which Quesne and his company, Vivarium Studio, won an Obie Award.  Supported by the French-American Fund for Contemporary Theater, the production toured in the United States in 2011 and his performance “Bivouac” was recently presented in New York part of the 2013 Biennale Performa.

Quesne's direction at Les Amandiers will include collaborations with other artists such as Gisele Vienne, Joel Pommerat, Vincent Macaigne, and Heiner Gobbels.
