Ceci N’est Pas… Brings Together The Art Of France And La

Ceci n’est pas… is a project that explores the connections between contemporary art in France and Los Angeles through a series of exhibitions and artist residencies.Initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States in association with the Institut Français, with the support of the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the participation of many local institutions, Ceci n’est pas… will begin on December 1, 2012 with the opening of the exhibition LOST IN LA, organized by the FLAX Foundation.  The program will run for 5 months and includes more than 30 Franco-American collaborations with art centers, museums, art schools and non-profit organizations in Los Angeles, covering a wide spectrum of contemporary art, from sculpture to performance, and from architecture to videoThe intersections between France and Los Angeles are numerous, from the influence of artists like Marcel Duchamp, Niki de Saint-Phalle or Yves Klein on Californian artists to the ties forged between professionals in museums, in galleries and universities.  The exchange goes both ways, and today many French artists travel to Los Angeles to work with Angeleno artists and institutions.
