France Honors Edouard Duval-carrie With The Order Of Arts And Letters

On April 21, the Consul General of France in Miami, Philippe Létrilliart, awarded Haitian artist Edouard Duval-Carrie the medal of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. The ceremony took place at the artist's studio.

Edouard Duval-Carrie is an Haitian-born artist, who had to flee from the Haitian dictatorship. He traveled the world (Puerto Rico, Canada, France) and finally settled in Miami Beach. His studio is located in the heart of Little Haïti, next to the Little Haiti Cultural Center.Edouard Duval-Carrie's work is influenced by Haiti's history and his own past. He is very close to French culture and strives to keep Haitian-born people linked to their historical heritage. As such, Edouard was involved in the creation of the French Language Heritage Program in Miami, which aims to help young Haitian immigrants preserve their link to the French language and Francophone cultures. Since 2009, he created the annual exhibition "Global Caribbean" during Art Basel week, with the support of CulturesFrance (now Institut Français). More recently, his work was highlighted in the monumental exhibition "Haiti: deux siècles de création artistique" at the Grand Palais in Paris (2014).
