17 Designs By Le Corbusier Added To Unesco World Heritage Sites List

The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, meeting for its 40th session in Istanbul on July 10-20, listed 17 works by pioneering Franco-Swiss architect Le Corbusier as world heritage sites, calling them a “testimonial to the invention of a new architectural language that made a break with the past.”

The sites, which span seven countries, include:   1- Le Cabanon (Roquebrune, France)2- Palace of Assembly (Chandigargh, India)3- Notre-Dame du Haut chapel (Ronchamp, France)4- Cité Frugès (Pessac, France)   5- Saint-Marie de la Tourette convent (Evreux, France)6- Maison de la culture (Firminy, France)7- La Clarté building (Geneva, Switzerland)8- Molitor building (Boulogne-Billancourt, France)9- The Curutchet house (La Plata, Argentina)10- Guiette house (Antwerp, Belgium)11- The Weissenhof-Siedlung houses (Stuttgart, Germany)12- Villa Savoye (Poissy, France)13- Cité radieuse (Marseille, France)14- Claude & Duval factory (Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, France)15- The National Museum of Western Art (Taito-Ku, Japan)16- The La Roche and Jeanneret houses (Paris, France)17- Villa on lac Léman (Corseaux, Switzerland)

“These masterpieces of creative genius,” UNESCO said on its website, “also attest to the internationalization of architectural practice across the planet.”
