Ultraviolet (grenoble, Fr 1935 – New York, Ny 2014)

The French-American artist Isabelle Collin Dufresne, better known as Ultraviolet, died on Saturday, June 14th in New York.

She was the ex-muse of Andy Warhol, and upon arriving in NYC as an adolescent, she became Salvador Dali’s mistress—one of his muse-assistants. When the Spanish artist introduced her to Andy Warhol in 1963, she continually shifted from master to master, genre to genre, and vacillated between surrealism and pop art. She also acted in films such as Macadam Cowboy by John Schlesinger and Taking Off by Milos Forman.  In her autobiography Famous for 15 minutes published in 1988 and translated in 17 languages, she denounces the excessive quality of her life during her years at The Factory.

A multimedia artist, Ultraviolet wrote, painted, sculpted, and took photos. She had two studios, one in Nice, France and one in Chelsea in Manhattan.

A memorial celebration took place on Wednesday, June 18th in New York City. She will be buried in France.
