Ceci N'est Pas... The Documentary

Ceci n’est pas… is proud to announce the release of a short documentary film directed by Sébastien Paquet for HK Corp which retraces an exciting season of artistic events.

Over a five-month period, the Ceci n’est pas… adventure proved to be a unique experiment in the contemporary art landscape, showcasing the very strong artistic ties between French and American artists working together in an innovative setting. This collective project included exhibitions and performances throughout the Los Angeles area involving art centers, museums and non-profit organizations.

Ceci n’est pas…, a platform for contemporary art exchanges, was initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in Los Angeles with the help of institutions such as the Institut Français, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange), François Ghebaly Gallery, Cherry and Martin Gallery, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Hammer Museum and LAXART.

The December 2013 opening exhibition of FLAX Foundation's LOST IN LA, launched the season of exhibitions, installations and performances which lasted until April 2013. The innovations and connections that were created around the Ceci n’est pas… nexus of events marked a defining moment in the relationship between Los Angeles and France.

The film had its debut presentation at the Art LA Contemporary Fair in Santa Monica, and is now available online for free streaming on Vimeo.

You can follow Ceci n’est pas… on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more information on the latest French-American artistic collaborations happening in Los Angeles.
