Eva Barois De Caevel: Ici’s 2014 Independent Vision Curatorial Award

Eva Barois de Caevel, independent curator based in Paris and assistant curator at Raw Material Company in Dakar (Senegal), has been named as the Independent Vision Curatorial Award Honoree this year. Most recently, Eva Barois de Caevel worked on Avant-Garden for FIAC 2014 and The Floating Admiral for Nouvelle Vagues at the Palais de Tokyo in 2013.

Independent Vision Curatorial Award is given every two year by the Independent Curators International (ICI) and aims to support emerging international curators who have shown promise in their exhibition-making, research, and related writing. The award includes $3,000 stipend towards a new project.

Eva Barois de Caevel has been chosen from a shortlist of 15 curators from all around the world, by Nancy Spector, juror of the 2014 Independent Vision Curatorial Award. Nancy Spector, Deputy Director and Jennifer and David Stockman Chief Curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, announces that “Eva Barois De Caevel’s unflinching curatorial practice tackles some of today’s most urgent issues, including sexuality and human rights, in a postcolonial world. Working collaboratively to encourage dialogue and participation among her audiences, with issues both local and global, she is courageously expanding the curatorial field”.

The award will be presented at the ICI's Annual Benefit & Auction on November 17th, 2014 at the Cunard Building in New York.
