Benjamin Millepied’s LA Dance Project Residency at the Ace Hotel Downtown
Benjamin Millepied, the famous dancer and choreographer of the Oscar-winning film Black Swan, presents his latest project entitled The L.A. Dance Project at the theatre of the Ace Hotel February 20 to February 22. L.A. Dance Project is the artist’s collective founded by Millepied along with founding producer Charles Fabius, film producer Dimitri Chamblas, composers Nico Muhly and Nicholas Britell, and art consultant Matthieu Humery. With the support of The Ace Downtown Hotel in Los Angeles, The L.A. Dance Project will showcase new collaborative work by several up-and-coming artists as well as revisiting the era of past collaborations in multidisciplinary dance.
Benjamin Millepied exhibits the works of his new dance company in three performances. The founding director will demonstrate his choreographic talents in the U.S. premieres of Reflections, with music by David Lang and Bryce Dessner (of The National), visual concepts by Barbara Kruger and Sterling Ruby, and Murder Ballads by Justin Peck. The program also includes a sneak-peek of a new artistic piece by Hiroaki Umeda in preparation for its Paris debut in March 2014.
The L.A. Dance Project seeks to create innovative forms for contemporary dance in a fascinating laboratory that promotes dance education for all ages. It is the latest in a series of programs that are energizing the Downtown Los Angeles art scene.
