Dance2016: More About American Realness in France (March-April 2016)

August 17, 2016 | By Visual & Performing Arts Department

Between March and April 2016, a special edition of the boundary-blurring performances festival American Realness curated by Ben Pryor traveled for the first time to France.

Presented by three audacious organizations, Centre National de la Danse (CND) in Pantin, Les Susbistances in Lyon,  and Théâtre Garonne, in Toulouse, as part Dance2016,  it featured performance artists Simone Aughterlony, Antonija Livingstone, Hahn Rowe, Ligia Lewis, Dana Michel, keyon gaskin, Miguel Gutierrez and Trajal Harrell.

While touring France, Marin Sander Holzman from Marin Media Lab produced a mini-doc recording the events. Ben Pryor as well as presenters Cathy Bouvard, Les Subsistances, Aymar Crosnier, Centre National de la Danse, Stéphane Boitel, Théâtre Garonne, and the artists, Dana Michel, Ligia Lewis, Miguel Gutierrez and keyon gaskin, speak of their experience of Realness in France.
