The French circus Barolosolo Cirkus Company is performing at Discovery Green on July 3 and 4 as part of the annual event series: MARAVILLOSO! A Contemporary Circus event at Discovery Green. This special two-day, free event is open to everyone and presented by the Discovery Green Conservancy, with the support of the Houston Arts Alliance, Institut Français and the Cultural Service of the French Consulate in Houston.

Direct from the medieval city of Carcasonne, France, Barolosolo Cirkus Company is part of the world wide contemporary circus movement. See the Texas premiere of “ile O,” a delightful mash-up of modern physical theater moving from comic to absurd in a setting of aquatic poetry and music. A small water kiosk and two circus artists set the premise for 35 minutes of cheerful chaos and amazing acrobatics performed by the renowned contemporary circus artists Mathieu Levavasseur and William Valet.

Also performing are Houston’s own Cirque La Vie, showcasing the German wheel and performing group acrobatics and contortionist movements, while FrenetiCore Dance Company contributes their own special brand of fearless dance theater to the evening’s events.

The schedule of events for both July 3 and 4 is as follows:

9:30 PM Barolosolo’s performance of “ile O”

“Discovery Green Conservancy is proud to present Baralosolo, one of the best young contemporary circus companies from France, a world-wide leader in the emergence of circus arts across the globe. Circus arts are uniquely suited to be performed outdoors in public spaces like Discovery Green which attract diverse audiences. We are also so thrilled to present Cirque la Vie and Freneticore Dance Company, local companies who integrate circus arts into their work.”  Susanne Theis, Programming Director at Discovery Green.

Performances are subject to weather. Blankets, lawn chairs, pets and picnics are welcome; do not bring glass containers or outside alcoholic beverages into the park. Concessions, including beer and wine, are available for purchase at The Lake House.
