Etienne de France will create a FLAX Project with Looking for the Perfect Landscape, a 40-minute video, which consists of several episodes. The fascinating series combines documentary and fiction, archaeology and philosophy, capturing the deserted landscapes of California.

A young Chilean artist works as a location scout for a film about Cibolà, a mythical golden city located in the current New Mexico, which was never found by the Spanish conquistadores, who led vain and violent expeditions to discover its treasures. Seeking locales in California that could be the set of this mythical city, Etienne explores these landscapes through the lens of the character’s own indigenous heritage and culture. With his incredible blend of South American and Californian ancestry, and knowing that California had the largest and most diverse Native American population, he is particularly interested in exploring questions surrounding colonization and heritage.
