Visiting New Mexico any time soon? Be sure to check out some of their upcoming art shows and art exhibitions featuring some of the greatest European masters and contemporary artists of today, such as Cézanne, Picasso, and Mondrian!

The New Mexico Museum of Art presents a new, original understanding of the very best European masters and contemporary artists up to date. Lines of Thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to Now frames the works of Piet Mondrian, Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso, among others. The exhibition seeks to rediscover the many ways these artists have incorporated drawing as a medium to reflect and keep track of thought.

In the framework of an exhibition about European painting, French masterpieces by much-revered figures such as the Post-Impressionist, Paul Cézanne and Pablo Picasso will be presented as a means of highlighting such artists subversive treatment of art’s " rules ". With Cézanne’s play on surface that renders each of his pieces « flat », and Picasso’s futuristic attitude towards shapes that gave birth to the founding of cubism and abstraction, viewers are encouraged to enjoy and engage in multiple works by European artists all which display, in their own style, a aesthetically hopeful and momentary escape from reality into an entirely new universe of art, whether it be through splotches of paint characteristic of Impressionism, or wild colors typical of the Fauvists.

From May 1 through October, Cathedral Park welcomes several outstanding works from a diverse variety of Spanish, Flemish, Dutch, French and German painters of the 14th through the 19th centuries, provided by the Museo del Prado. This outdoor gallery in a shady, ideal setting allows a comfortable and relaxing way to explore art on an enjoyable spring afternoon.
