As a part of its 2017/2018 season, LA Opera will be performing four French operas! Carmen will run from September 1 - October 1, The Pearl Fishers from October 7 - 28, La Belle et la Bête from October 28 - 31 and Orpheus and Eurydice from March 10 - 25. Fill your year with French opera and get your tickets to these shows before it's too late!

Set in southern Spain, Carmen follows the downfall of a naïve soldier named Don José after he is seduced by the fiery Carmen and practically abandons his previous life. But things take a turn for the worst when Carmen falls in love with the glamorous toreador, Escamillo. Known for the brilliant melody, harmony, atmosphere and orchestration, Carmen is now one of the most popular and frequently performed classical operas.

A rare and exotic tale, The Pearl Fishers shares the story of a veiled priestess with a hidden past who is being pursued by two lifelong friends and romantic rivals. The forbidden love of this love triangle is pushed to a struggle for life or death until a nearly forgotten secret saves the day. With an already ravishing score, this production features beautifully detailed staging and stunning special effects.

A familiar fairy tale with a deeper subject, LA Opera's La Belle et le Bête transforms Jean Cocteau's 1946 cinematic masterpiece into a live event. Recast with an enchanting new soundtrack by Philip Glass, live singers replace the film's original music and dialogue. A shimmering spectacle, this performance conveys the transformative power of love and art. These special performances will be held at The Theatre at Ace Hotel.

Drawn from mythology, Orpheus and Eurydice is a timeless story that changed the face of opera with its emphasis on dramatic clarity and emotional strength. Following Orpheus' descent into the underworld to retrieve his lost Eurydice, this opera shares his journey as he tames the Furies and faces Love's challenge along the way. With ornate vocal lines and flowing melodies, this opera blends the musical worlds of Handel and Mozart.

All operas will be in French with projected English translations.
