With their audacious adaptation from 'The Beauty and the Beast' and 'Cinderella', world-renowned Malandain Ballet Biarritz introduces a sensuous and classical design moving the medium from a written children’s tale to an aesthetically wonderful spectacle. Based in the Basque coastal resort town of Biarritz in Southern France, Artistic Director Thierry Malandain has developed a very personal approach to dance that is rooted in classical ballet with a contemporary, full-bodied style.

This presentation of La Belle et la Bête puts a frame around the deuce of being with the tale’s heroine, Belle, embodying the human soul and the Beast acting as a life force as well as human instinct. With such amazingly artistic variations of the tale, accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s symphonic works and carried by the ballet 22 wonderful dancers, the audience is sure to be swept away into a romantic, imaginative world where bodily grace, strewn, pieces of elegant humor, and traditional beauty - as manifested by the dancers costumes - speak to the human soul and the human mind.

After two representations of the Beauty and the Beast, the Mandalain Ballet Biarritz will move on to Cinderella in San Luis Obispo. This free, witty adaptation from Charles Perrault 1698's tale reflects Thierry Malandain's imagination and humor. The upcoming performances of “Cinderella” includes dancing mannequins, hilarious step sisters, and superb contemporary ballet dancers to produce the fairytale of Cinderella like you’ve never seen before.

In addition to the representations, the Mandalain Ballet Biarritz will organize a Masterclass for advanced dancers, taught by Françoise Dubuc at the Performing Arts Center, San Luis Obispo, March 21st, 7 - 8:30 PM.
