As part of the research theme “Design and biology”, carried at ENSCI by Guillian Graves, three student designers have joined students in biology, physics, chemistry and law to form the multidisciplinary team of the Paris Pasteur Institute and develop Mos(KIT)o.

Today, the main way to fight vector-borne diseases is to spray insecticides to kill mosquitoes. However, in some cases, authorities spray too much insecticides, which impacts the environment, and it can cause resistance in mosquitoes.

The Mos(kit)o device is an environmental surveillance system that locates infected mosquitoes. It targets infected areas and avoids the over spraying of insecticides preventing epidemics. It consists of three main parts: a trapping system, a detection device and mapping software.

ENSCI-Les Ateliers will also participate to the WantedDesign Design Schools Workshop, which they conducted in 2016. The program is an important part of WantedDesign, and has been very successful in promoting the schools, fostering the creation of an international network of young designers, as well as in initiating partnerships between schools and manufacturers. This year, the workshop will focus on material exploration within the theme of “HyperHybrid”.
