This year's Newport Jazz Festival presents 45 sets of jazz over three days. Among the great selection of artists in this year's program is Cécile McLorin Salvant. Born and raised in Miami, Florida with a French mother and a Haitian father, Cécile became interested in music at a young age. In 2007, she moved to Aix-en-Provence, France where she studied classical and baroque voice at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory. Two years later she recorded her first album titled "Cécile" with Jean-Francois Bonnel's Paris Quintet.

She is celebrated for her unique interpretations of unknown and scarcely recorded jazz and blues compositions and for her focus on a theatrical portrayal of the jazz standard. Further she composes music and lyrics which she also sings in her native language, French, and in Spanish. Cécile's 2012 album "WomanChild" was nominated for the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. She will be performing at 2:10pm on Friday, August 1st and at 3:15pm on Saturday August 2nd.
