Created from his bedroom at Arles, 'Bedroom' may be interpreted as Van Gogh’s meditation on friendship, hope and regret and functions as a self-portrait as well as the artist’s relentless search for solitude. The Van Gogh’s 'Bedroom' exhibition at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena seeks to explore the many different aptitudes of Van Gogh’s work within its historical and social context.

Throughout much of his short life, Van Gogh entertained dreams and illusions of establishing his own "Studio of the South", in hopes of working alongside other artists. The arrival of French post-Impressionist, Gaugin, both a competitor and idol for Van Gogh, saw the end of the Dutch artist’s dreams for his Studio of the South as his nervous breakdown would mark the beginning of his declining years.

Having been repainted three times, this second version - loan of the Art Institute of Chicago - offers an in-depth, transcendental exploration of Vincent Van Gogh’s life, dreams, and mind, - an enchanting exhibition to visit.
