Arts for Young Audiences | Professional Forum

April 4, 2016 | By French Culture Arts

In conjunction with Tilt Kids Festival in New York City, the French Cultural Services organized a professional forum on April 1, 2016 on the theme "Arts for Young Audiences".

The forum brought together 60 professionals, from various institutions and disciplines, to discuss various topics: Engaging young audiences through art; Presenting challenging subjects such as violence, war, racism, gender; Networks and Circulation of international projects for young audiences.

The conversations were moderated by:

- Mary Rose Lloyd, Director of Artistic Programming, and Lindsay Buller Maliekel, Director of Education / Public Engagement at The New Victory Theater;

- Prof. David Montgomory, PhD, Director, The Program in Educational Theater at New York University;

- Peg Schuler-Armstrong, Diretor of Programming and Production at the Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in Education.

Among the professionals who attended were representatives of the Bronx Museum, MoMa PS1, New York City Center, El Museo del Barrio, Symphony Space, the New York International Children's Film Festival, and many others. From general to informal table conversations, every single participant showed a vivid engagement and real passion on the various topics.

Throughout the day, professionals talked about how to improve their work in making the arts accessible, equitable, engaging and inspiring to children; what measures to take and how to give the keys to accompany educators, teachers and parents in the process of explaining the arts, especially when presenting challenging subjects; what challenges the institutions and professional can face and what is next.

The forum was organized in partnership with Assitej International and SACD, France (Société d’auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques).
