Camille Blatrix received the 16th Ricard Foundation Award

November 5, 2014 | By Louise Lassarre

The French artist Camille Blatrix received the 16th Ricard Foundation Award for his scultpures I want to spend the rest of my life with you (Je veux passer le reste de ma vie avec toi) and Still'elle that were part of the group exhibition L'époque, les humeurs, les valeurs et l'attention (September 10 - October 31, 2014) curated by the French independent curators castillo/corrales at the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris. Camille Blatrix has been chosen among 5 other artists (Marie Angeletti, Jean-Alain Corre, Audrey Cottin, Hendrik Hegray et Mélanie Matranga).

The works I want to spend the rest of my life with you and Still'elle are both made of aluminum, wood and glass, by the artist himself and not in a manufacturing workshop. I want to spend the rest of my life with you represents a smelted intercom recalling Dali’s soft melting pocket watches while Still'elle is a letter holder turned into a character.

Since 1999, the Fondation d'entreprise Ricard has awarded a French young emerging artist whose work is presented as part of an exhibition by an independent curator. Winer’s work is purchased by the foundation, and then donated to the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

Camille Blatrix is born in 1984 in France. He lives and works in Paris. He uses white metal and gives his pieces humorous titles, recalling the work of RenéMagritte. His work is both minimalist and surrealist and has been the subject of two solo exhibitions: Victor il suo cuore vuoto al completo at Gasconade Gallery in Milan in 2013, and Ticket to the Next at Galerie Balice Hertling in Paris 2014. Currently, his work is part of the exhibition Puddle, pothole, portal presented at SculptureCenter in New York. Camille Blatrix is represented by Galerie Balice Hertling.
