France-Atlanta 2012 cultural highlights

March 29, 2013 | By Heather Kircher

For four years now, the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and the Georgia Institute of Technology have partnered together to present each fall a multidiciplinary series of events centered on innovation and designed to strengthen the French-American cooperation in the Southeast U.S.: “France-Atlanta: Together towards Innovation”.

More than 4,700 participants attended over fifteen scientific, economic, cultural and humanitarian events during France-Atlanta 2012. Above all, the mobilization of numerous French and Atlantan organizations paved the way for several projects of collaboration.

In the cultural domain, several collaborations took place or were explored. Pierre Rigal and his Compagnie Dernière Minute returned to the Rialto Center for the Arts stage at the Georgia State University for another incredible performance. Then, joining forces with the city festival Elevate, they participated in some street dance events. In addition, saxophonist Raphaël Imbert partnered with local musicians at the High Museum of Art's Friday jazz and then later with Atlanta's well-known saxophonist the Reverand Dr. Dwight Andrews. Future projects are under exploration by these two jazz lovers. Photographer Pierre Gonnord presented the work that he began during a residency in the U.S. Southeast in early 2012 in his exhibition "Portraying the South". With the support of SCAD, he will continue and expand this project which will be on display at the SCAD Museum of Art later in 2013. Finally, film-lovers enjoyed another exciting year of partnership between France-Atlanta and the BronzeLens Film Festival as 2012 put the focus on up-and-coming Caribbean and African directors.

As France-Atlanta has become an annual event, a known and awaited yearly rendez-vous, the launching of a fourth edition comes as no surprise. The launching of France-Atlanta 2013, anticipated for next fall, was announced on February 20,2013 at the Alliance Française in Atlanta, in presence of sponsors and partners of this initiative.
